ABOUT KATRINAAs the CFO for the Austin Independent School District (AISD), Katrina Montgomery, MBA, has 30+
years of accounting expertise, over two decades of strategic leadership experience, and a proven track record as a transformational, people-focused financial leader. Beyond generating million-dollar profits for large institutions and revitalizing struggling organizations to weather new challenges, Mrs. Montgomery excels at cultivating tight-knit, high-performing teams and creating opportunities in underserved communities for students to achieve success. She is a true servant leader, working effectively with diverse stakeholders and delivering sound financial strategies based on solid data. Mrs. Montgomery has a well-earned reputation for getting results beyond what others thought was possible and for establishing processes that ensure the highest levels of accuracy, efficiency, and integrity. AISD carries the highest bond and state financial accountability ratings that school districts can earn in the state of Texas. She also directed the successful implementation of a new enterprise resource financial planning software for seven divisions in less than 18 months for a successful transition, including 99% accuracy on payroll processing. In her previous experience at Huston-Tillotson University, Mrs. Montgomery pinpointed key areas to cut costs and improve the university’s position with vendors. She was also instrumental in getting the university re-certified with the Southern Association of Colleges in Schools Commission on Colleges certification. She also worked with multiple departments and university leadership at the onset of COVID-19, achieving zero layoffs and helping the university stay fiscally sound and even profitable through the pandemic. In addition to her achievements as CFO, Mrs. Montgomery has served as the Vice President of Capital Area Texas Association of School Business Officials and she has been an active board member with several non-profits, including the Ann Richards School Foundation, Measure, and Communities in Schools of Central Texas. She was also appointed as the Texas Chapter’s Issuer Ambassador for the 27th Annual Women in Public Finance Conference. She also received the Austin Independent School District 2025 Darlene Westbrook Leadership in Education Award. Outside of work, Mrs. Montgomery is fiercely committed to her family. She met her husband, Michael of 29 years when they were both students at Grambling State University, and together they have two wonderful adult children. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. |
